Pez

He decidido empezar otro diario pero en un formato pequeño.

La segunda entrada de él va a ser éste pez, el cual me empieza a agradar bastante.

Eye

For the last month I've been obsessed with embroidery, so I decided to make an entry on my thesis with such media.

It's been loads of fun... until I got to sew on the moleskine paper.

Since there are many things I still don't know how to do, I'll go through the web and see what different things could be done, like this "flower"

The complete eye piece. Took me a while to finish but I'm very happy of how it looks

And some close ups

Monster and knitting

Since I decided to start making a crochet blanket, I have to make decisions about times. I would like to spend all day drawing, or knitting, still I need to do both.

So, I'm working on a little monster, and when I say little, is because he is.

Cat-faced monster

Currently I have 17/2 granny squares, and many, many more to go.

The boy in the pool.

Last night I dreamed I was at this resort. It had only one big swimming pool, with many people in it, children, parents having fun and a nice time. At this place I met with a woman. she was young, about 35-39 years old. Her hair was so black that made her skin look pale and bright (she kind of looked like Salma Hayek). When she stood next to me, I realized she was very short, shorter than me, considering I'm not too tall. She was wearing a black long dress; more than a dress it seemed like those dresses women wears in Saudi Arabian, when the sun stroke the dress, I could notice it had fine golden threads woven in the fabric. She never looked at me directly. I placed myself behind her, feeling how our energies became one. I could feel her inside me and knew for sure she could feel me inside her, thinking the same thoughts, being able to comunicate without talking.

She placed herself in front of the pool, observing it in silence. The owner of the place, a middle-aged man with plaid shirt approached to us in obvious anger. He told her she shouldn't be there, that his costumers was looking for a place to relax with their families and the less they needed was ti be disturbed. As he went on and one, I knew the woman wasn't paying attention to him. She raised her hand, silencing him. I noticed all the rings on her fingers, with stones of different colours, and on her wrist, many golden bracelets clinking every time she moved her arm. She reminded me of a gipsy.

I could feel her energy, strong and powerful, but wasn't the energy of a 30-something old woman, she was much older, a very old woman that was too young for her body. She had this scent, like an old book, or some clothes somebody long gone wore in the past, and the essence of this person remained as now part of the fabric.

She stood there in silence, with her hand raised, listening. She looked to her left and said "There". She moved, I followed, always so close, always protecting her. The woman looked to the pool, to an empty spot. I could see the water, it wasn't moving, just in the place she pointed out, despite there was people still inside the pool, not aware of what we were doing there. We walked a few more steps and then she stepped on the water, walking on it, never sinking. I knew I had to follow her, so I did, not sure if I would be able to do the same thing, thinking I would sink. But I didn't. We crossed the pool walking, and when we reached to the other side, she stood inside. I looked at her because I wasn't sure what was going on, why she wasn't moving. In a second she sank, all I could see was her hair floating in the water. I knelt, trying to reach for her, but was too deep. Something made me look ahead of me, to that place she pointed before. The water was now moving, and then I was a head coming up. I knew it wasn't the woman, she didn't moved from where she was. It was the boy, the dead boy we were supposed to take out of there, to cast him away.

He looked at me with his big black eyes, so cold I couldn't move. In my memory he had eyes, but deep inside I know he didn't, just black holes instead of them. He sank again, and all the people inside the pool started to leave it, they knew something was wrong. The water turned green with waterweed and mold. I could see the bo moving towards the women. It wasn't just him, there were other children moving inside, all of them dead too. I could hear the women's voice, she was chanting some spell, or some old ghost song. I waited and saw the first child reaching the surface. It was a girl. I took her hand and pulled her out. As soon as the sun hit her, her body started to shine and disintegrate, a calm showing on her face. One by one I pulled them out of the pool. They went away happy and in peace.

When the woman came to the surface, I helped her too. I asked about the boy, why he wasn't there, why he wasn't saved. She said it wasn't that easy, that he forgot who he was when he was alive, he even was't aware he was dead, so this leaved him very sand and angry. It would take a long time to help him, she said "not this time". She told me to go and I woke up.

Little Red Riding Hood.

Working on the Little Red Riding Hood drawing.

Took me a while to make up my mind about which fairy tale I would be working on, and after a quick poll I did on Twitter seemed was the most popular one, aside Alice In Wonderland. I'm working on another Alice project anyway, and Little Red is one of my most favourite themes.

Still The Little mermaid is good too.

So hard to pick just one.

Portrait in progress

Most part of the afternoon I spent it drawing... no, actually I'm lying. Truth is I was playing my ukulele and time flew with all the musical notes, and when My fingers got tired I sat down and start drawing.

I kept on working on Kaspian's portrait. Now I'm not sure if it looks like him or not. Is one of those moments when I look at the drawing and I think "I should start all over again".

But I don't want to because if I do it might the the same story.

Maybe is looking good so far. Maybe.

Almost there

After days and days of sitting on my ass, this drawing is finally getting done... not quite, but almost.

Even if I finish it on Saturday or Sunday I won't post it until Monday, obeying rule no. 354: Never post on a weekend.

Mass and sketching

Today me an my family went to this mass given in memory of one of my uncles and his son. They passed away a year ago in a car accident.

While there, at the church, I saw this Jesus figure and started to draw it.

I wasn't raised catholic nor from any other religion whatsoever, still I find Catholic iconography a powerful and beautiful thing, even more those more violent ones.

I think the Jesus I drew looks a bit like Liam Neeson, isn't he?

Testing

Found the Blogger app for iPhone.

I stay away from the place for long periods of time, so I'm going to give this a chance. If it works as I expect to, I'll be blogging more in the near future :)

Weekend

Mi friend Benjamin Barrios came to spend the weekend, so I took him to Pátzcuaro.

It was a really nice experience, specially because two kids at the island of Janitzio said that we were hippies ! :D

Here in Janitzio and the cemetery where every year people celebrates Night of The Dead.

I've been working on this two drawings for the last past week, and I'm feeling very happy with them, though the first one needs loads of work. Maybe it'll take me more tome to complete.

Here a few shots of details:

I can't take my mind off of you.

On the weekend I read "The Host".

You'd say "Stephanie Meyer ? WTF?". Well, I couldn't care less.

I noticed the book around for quite some time now but never really feel like reading it. I'm not much a alien lover, the whole theme fot me is boring, even when I watch The X Files I get utterly bored by the whole thing (and it's supposed to be the main plot, the reason why the X files exists). I don't know if I could place Star Wars on the same level, because those I really like, so I won't talk about it.

No, I'm here to talk about The Host. Yes.

On Friday I decided to read it, why ? I wonder the same, but it was something calling me, saying "read me, please". I'm weak when this calling appears, so I didn't resist much.

At first the book didn't seem so bad, considering all the things people say about the Twilight series, which I also read a few years back. Maybe this was the main reason why to read this other book. I find Mrs. Meyer's writing very light yet somehow captivating, junk literature, my mum would say (Oh, yes, I think she'd like me reading quality literature, but let's face it, I also like this other one). As I was reading I found myself with a, let's say, not so teenage thing there, well, a bit, but more interesting and differently written, and then, this character:

Wanderer.

Wanda.

It's been a long time since a character caught me unprepared, in a way that, at first, gradually, I started to like her. She's so well constructed, with some flaws, yes, still very complete. By the time I was on the half part of the book I totally fell for her: it was love.

I don't like that Mrs. Meyer doesn't make much descriptions of characters, just a few hints of how they look like; this time it didn't matter at all, the whole idea of how Melanie's body would look like with Wanderer inside flown in my mind like silvering water. The idea of her was stronger than Melanie itself, which, I must admit, she wasn't one of my favourites. For some reason I didn't like her much, maybe because she reminded me of Bella's character, impulsive and whining all the time.

The idea of the book was really good. The idea of aliens coming to our planet to change it to another without violence, nor the need for it, but what captivated me the most was that the idea wasn't planned as absolut: not everything was ok, not everyone were bad or good, as many times in many things others likes us to think, to believe. In the story the characters changes their minds, their hate and love, aversions and likes. The idea of a person that is absolutely and utterly "bad" or "good" can change for the eyes of the beholder. Well done, Mrs Meyer ! You gain my sympathy because of this tiny/huge motiv.

Why am I writing all this ? Thing is, when the book ended, or maybe after it did, I didn't want anything bad happening to Wanda, that her last plan didn't work and she was saved from her own demise. I'm not going to say how it ends, and thought I felt it a bit weak, I liked it, demonstrating me how human and selfish I am.

I fell in love with the character, so deeply, that is almost like if I close my eyes and try really hard I can almost feel her, like somebody that just left the room but was here, with me, so close.

Sigh*

Some Girl

Some Girl, originally uploaded by Lady Orlando.

Lately I don't have much time to make "serious" works, so a bit of doodles comes handy :)

Al estar trabajando en la tesis y en unas cosillas más, no me queda tiempo para dedicarle a dibujos más elaborados, así que hago cosillas :)
